The children explore the five pillars of Islam and the importance of these to Muslim believers. The children will gain a greater understanding of Islam and what they can learn from its beliefs, values and ideas. The series of lessons will provide an opportunity to learn about the Qur’an, other forms of guidance and the place of worship, a Mosque.
Science
In our 'May the Force be with You' unit, the children will be exploring and explaining how unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object. They will also be identifying the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces and finally investigating mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears,, looking at how a smaller force allows to have a greater effect
In our 'Art of Sciecne' unit , the children will be describing the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird
ii and learn the life process of some plants and animals.
During both these unit the children will continue to develop their know and skills of working scientifically by: planning different types of scientific enquiries to answer questions, including recognising and controlling variables where necessary, recording data and results of increasing complexity using scientific diagrams and labels, classification keys, tables, scatter graphs, bar and line graphs, reporting and presenting findings from enquiries, including conclusions, causal relationships and explanations of and degree of trust in results, in oral and written forms such as displays and other presentations and identifying scientific evidence that has been used to support or refute ideas or arguments
Music
In our Music unit, all the learning is focused around one song:' Livin' on a Prayer'. The children will participate in and integrated approach to music where games, the dimensions of music (pulse, rhythm, pitch etc), singing and playing instruments are all linked. As well as learning to sing, play, improvise and compose with this song, children will listen and appraise other classic rock songs.
Overview- Spring Term
Art
In this Ancient Egypt unit will being learning about how to use a pencil, pen and charcoal, how to make clay faces and model in paper and papier mache to create quality art work that shows progression in their skills. The children will also have the opportunity to explore the work of Leger, Hockney and photographs taken by Man Ray

They will also scrutinise photographs that they see online and learn how easy it is to manipulate pictures and present them as reality.
Geography
In this unit the Children will learn about controlling movement with a cam mechanism as part of an automata animal. They develop their designing skills through using information sources to research ideas about animals which are then incorporated into the design criteria and designs. They then make a simple cam mechanism to formulate an understanding of how different shaped cams can be used to produce different movements. Children extend their making skills by developing techniques in cutting, shaping and joining to combine components and by selecting tools and equipment to measure and cut wood and card accurately. Through these activities they gain an understanding of the working characteristics of the materials and components and how they can be combined to create more useful properties. Peer assessment is used to improve designs and evaluate final products.
Indoor PE
The children will learn and perform some rhythmic gymnastics to represent the movement of the Earth, Sun and Moon. They will also learn how to create a range of shapes with their bodies, both on the floor and on apparatus and they will practise their movements and linking actions to join ideas and represent different events. In addition to this, they will work on their own and with a partner to create a range of point balances, using their skills and creativity to create new shapes and positions. At the end of the unit, they will combine their skills to plan and perform group routines that showcase their work. Throughout each lesson, children will be encouraged to evaluate their own and others’ performances and suggest ideas for improvement.
Outdoor PE
The children will learn how to dribble and pass the ball using a range of different techniques. Defensively, they will develop their skills of marking including man-to-man marking. Offensively, they will learn how to get free from a defender, how to shield the ball and the skill of pivoting. They will also learn some of the rules of the game and to play as part
of a team in a mini-tournament, putting their newly developed skills into practise. Evaluating their own performance will round off the unit.
Citizenship
We focus on physical, mental and emotional health. We focus on healthy minds and understanding our emotions
RE
We look at the Key question - If God is everywhere, why go to a place of worship? We learn about the various purposes of a place of worship as well as how believers see these places. We think about the idea of God’s presence on earth and in believers’ lives.
Science
We are further developing our knowledge of ‘Properties of materials’, through ‘Music Materials’ topic. We will be comparing and grouping together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, transparency, and conductivity (electrical and thermal). We will also be giving reasons, based on evidence from comparative and fair tests, for the particular uses of everyday materials, including metals, wood and plastic
We will also look at changes in materials, through our ‘Changing Materials’ topic. We will compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their solubility and response to magnets. We will learn that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, and describe how to recover a substance from a solution. Next we will use our knowledge of solids, liquids and gases to decide how mixtures might be separated, including through filtering, sieving and evaporating. After that we will demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes. Finally, we will explain that some changes result in the formation of new materials, and that this kind of change is not usually reversible, including changes associated with burning and the action of acid on bicarbonate of soda.
Music
Studying Pop Ballards in our composition unit. All the learning is focused around one song: Make You Feel my Love. The lessons focus on the music where games to develop pulse, rhythm, pitch, singing and playing instruments
Overview- Autumn Term
GEOGRRAPHY
This term we will be learning about the geography of North America. We will be developing our location knowledge through studying maps of various scales. We will then focus on the physical and human geography across the continent. This will lead on to investigating place knowledge through looking at data, graphs and diagrams about the various climates in countries throughout North America. In addition, we will collect evidence of a North American festival and compare this with a European festival. Next, we will investigate and compare two distant places - Mexico and Alaska, including the time zones. When identifying significant place on the map, we will focus on the Colorado River - identifying features of the river, settlements near the river and measure distance using the scale. With the use of primary and second sources of information to find out more about biomes and tourism along the Colorado River. After that, we will investigate the historic earthquakes in San Francisco, using historical maps to see the changes. We will write a report to show how being on the San Andreas Fault has changed peoples lives. This will include sketch maps, historical maps, aerial photos. From this we will begin to draw simple maps using our findings. During the term we will also undertake a local geographical study completing and comparing results of a traffic survey in two locations, in the local area
ART
Our ‘North American Art’ we will learn how to draw the other half of a famous image, make collage landscapes, create body abstracts, make ‘building block’ houses, draw patterned skulls and be an artist’s model to create quality artwork developing our previous skills . During the unit we explore the work of American artists John Singer Sargent,
Helen Frankenthaler, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mary Cassatt, architect Frank Lloyd Wright and photographer Ansel Adams.
DT
Our 'Felt Phone Cases' unit we will be writing our own design criteria. We will design products, thinking about aesthetics and functionality. We will then annotated designs to communicate ideas as well as step by step plans. Firstly we will make a paper template and how to sew a running stitch, backstitch, whip stitch and blanket stitch. Finally, when we have made their felt phone case, we will undertake a detailed evaluation

In our Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) lessons we further develop fundamental skills needed for orienteering, such as agility and endurance, navigation skills and map reading. During the unit, we will work as part of a team, to solve a range of problems that focus on collaboration and effective communication. Also improve their understanding of maps and learn about the features of an orienteering map, applying this understanding when completing an orienteering exercise. In conclusion working collaboratively to plan and prepare an orienteering course.
In our ‘Invasion Games’ unit we will recap on many of the essential skills needed to play a range of invasion games, such as dribbling with the ball, passing and keeping possession. We also look at attacking and defending tactics, such as two-touch passing; learning when to pass and when to dribble and different techniques for tackling and marking.
Indoor PE
In our Gymnastics Movement unit we will perform a variety of floor and vault movements. Alongside this we will be developing our understanding of the necessary flexibility, strength and control needed to perform the movements successfully. To conclude we will choreograph our own sequences and routines and perform individually or as part of a pair or group.
In our Eco Dance unit, environmental issues provide the stimuli for us learning in dance. Through the lessons we will learn about transitioning between actions in a dance and how to create a recurring motif. This will develop their spatial awareness and understanding of timing in dance, as well as the way to create lines and shapes with bodies.
COMPUTI|NG
Our first computing unit we will look at Strategic Searching Online. We will learn how to refine searches using various techniques. Also learn to look for clues to decide if a website can be trusted and whether the information presented is reliable. Next we learn how search engines work and how search returns are ranked in a particular order. Finally, we will begin to learn how a web page gets towards the top of a returned search and will evaluate a web page based on search engine criteria.
Our second unit introduces children to flowcharts and how they are used to program and control devices. We learn to build sequences of instructions, control multiple outputs and structure algorithms with decisions and inputs.
RE
We look the Key Question - Why do some people believe God exists? This question enables us to learn in depth from different religious and non-religious groups about belief in God. We enquire into the key question- raising questions about the nature and existence of God focusing on Christian ideas about God. We will consider why people do or don’t believe in God and the impact that might have on the way they live their everyday life.
