In Reception we begin by practising our listening skills and developing our language for the first couple of weeks. We then move on to learning the "sounds" that letters make as well as beginning to learn the names of letters. We follow the Read Write Inc scheme, and the children learn the sounds in this order:
These are the Set 1 Speed Sounds written with one letter:

These are the sounds written with two letters (your child will call these ‘special friends’):
