Welcome to RS class page

We will visit our on site Nature Garden weekly to observe and discuss the changes in the environment and the seasons, along with the importance of looking after the plants and caring for nature.

We will also visit our wonderful Library Bus where we can explore all the different types of books we have. We will learn about the importance of looking after our books and find out lots of different things/listen to lots of stories too.

This term our focus in P.E will be learning how to dress and undress for our lesson along with becoming confident in the spaces around us.

We are learning to dance and move like a dinosaur and are learning the "Dinosaur Dance".

English

In our English lessons we have been talking and writing about the world around us as well as dinosaurs.  On a cold, frosty day we went to look for signs of winter.  We shared our understanding and we used our talking and writing skills to share our understanding and find out more.

We encourage children to bring their book bags to school with them every day.

Phonics

We learn a new sound every day.

We are learning to listen to sounds and form words.  We are learning how to write words by using and applying our phonics skills, and we are learning how to write a sentence or phrase.

We are learning how to become independent learners by choosing our own activities and learning, and also how to put on our own coats and shoes.

Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing for the weather e.g. coats, as they have access to the outdoors for most of the day. Also, a book bag is useful for bringing home reading books, letters and drawings etc.

Reading at Home

Children have now brought home their first books, and have been given a yellow reading diary.  Please record when your child has read at home in here and you may wish to add some details of any progress they may have made with you.  Children begin to receive reading leaves in assembly when they have read 10 books.

Pie Corbett stories

In class we "Pie Corbett" stories.  We read the story together on a daily basis using actions.  This encourages children to develop a love of reading and to develop an understanding of stories and to develop their story telling skills.    We are currently learning "Goldilocks and the Three Bears".  Please see below for the story.

Read Write Inc (phonics)

We are beginning to learn our phonic sounds in Read Write Inc. Children learn the sounds first and then learn the names of the letters. This encourages the children to be ready to segment (sound each sound/letter out) and then blend (put sounds together) in order to begin to read.

Parents may find this a useful link in finding out about how we teach early phonics and reading.

Maths

In maths, we have been learning to count and add to 5 and learning about 0.  We have been looking at how to use two numbers to make a bigger number, and we are beginning to learn how we can write and record some of our answers.

We also play games to help our understanding from the "Top Marks" website- underwater counting/ladybird spots/teddy counting.
