D and T
In D and T this term we have been designing and making Tudor money containers. We had to fit the design brief we were given and very much enjoyed learning sewing skills. Here are some pictures of us in action.
We have been learning all about Tudor dance this term and created our own dance pieces to Tudor music. Here are some pictures and videos of us in our PE lessons.
National Book Week
We have absolutely loved National Book Week so far. We have had a theatre production and also been visited by a fabulous author, Adam Guillain. Here are some pictures of us in action this week.
We took part in a workshop where we used our geography learning and imaginations. We travelled around the World visiting many mountains and volcanoes and even experienced some earthquakes. It was great!
We all really enjoyed E-Safety week. Visit the thinkuknow website below which we used during our week of learning.
National Storytelling Week
We thoroughly enjoyed National Storytelling Week. We took part in a range of storytelling activities. We ended the week with a visit to the school library. We were even allowed to visit the library during lunch. Not only did we tell well known stories we already knew, we made up many of our own. There are some future authors in 4S!
Here are some pictures from the week.
Our topic this Spring term is The Earth. So far we have learned about the layers of the earth, how earthquakes happen and how v and u shaped valleys are formed. We have got plenty more learning to keep us busy!!
As part of our homework we have extended our learning and been able to learn more about natural disasters that happen around the world all the time.
In PSHE we have set ourselves goals to achieve next half term. We have been learning about how to overcome barriers when trying to reach a goal and how to keep ourselves going when we feel like giving up. We are going to use this learning to help us achieve our personal goals. Check back here at the end of the next half term to see if we achieved our goals.
This term you have all been making music using digital technology. We have used Isle of Tune in class. Visit the website below to make some of your own music at home using your learning.
This term we have been learning about states of matter. We planned, carried out and concluded a science investigation into the affects of different variables on melting ice.
Musicians - We have been learning to play the glockenspiel!
In PE this term we have been learning how to work well as a team to complete outdoor activities and challenges. We have all been very successful in working together in teams, listening to each other, encouraging each other and working together.
We have been working with children from Beacon Hill this term. They have visited us every Wednesday and we have completed lots of activities around the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have made our own caterpillars, tasted lots of the foods the caterpillar did and made beautiful butterflies. We have very much enjoyed making new friends with the Beacon Hill children. Now, it is our turn to visit their school and each week a group of us are visiting their school to complete some activities.
Well done to all those children who have already got their green reading leaf for reading 10 books at home. We even now have people beginning to get their red leaves for an amazing 25 books!! Well done to Abbie who has her brown leaf for an incredible 50 books. Remember to let me know when you have read a book at home.
Green - 10 books
Red - 25 books
Brown - 50 books
Last term we learnt all about Victorian toys and made some of our own. Although we love the toys and games we have nowadays, we did enjoy making playing the Victorian toys.
We all took part in parliament week, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We learnt about how our country is run and the impact that we can have on our own and others futures. Even as part of Shaw Primary Academy, some of the principles apply as we elect our own school council representatives, have weekly class council meetings and are continually playing a major part in the running of our school. Here are some pictures of our debates on some hot topics.
