Fantasy Fiction - Harry Potter.

This term as part of our English learning, we will be reading and using Harry Potter, starting off with Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Throughout the unit, the book will be used for inspiration to learn more comprehension, grammar and fictional writing. We cannot wait to get started and enjoy the love of reading whilst improving and building on skills!

Poetry - Poetry on a Theme- Black Lives Matter

Our current unit in English focusses on the introduction to the Black Lives Matter movement and how poets raised awareness of this through poetry. We have started to look at 4 poems and watch performances of them. This has allowed us to understand the protest and explore the poems in more detail.

-People Need People by Benjamin Zephaniah

-And then they came for me by Martin Niemoller

- Hollow by Vanessa Kisuule

- Let there be peace by Lemn Sissay

Here are some of the amazing acrostic poems we created ourselves supporting Black Lives Matter. We focused on using figurative language to bring our poems alive- take a look!

During the second half of the Autumn term, our unit in English was Modern Fiction and we focused on the book Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. This is a fantasy fiction based story all about a small girl, Lyra, who lives in a fantasy world accompanied by her daemon, Pantalaimon. We cannot wait to take a step into her world!

Our first unit in English was all about Recounts and we looked at two different texts- The Day of Ahmed's Secret and Town is by the Sea. Each of these books explore the daily lives of two young boys from completely different parts of the world. Whilst exploring the genre of a recount, we also looked at the similarities and differences between the lives of these two boys.
