Spring 2

We have been reading a range of funny poems and tongue twisters, looking at the rhyming words and the alliteration. We practised until we could say them quickly - can you say them without making any mistakes?

We are also reading some funny stories about animals, and writing book reviews to show what we liked about our favourite book and why.

At the end of the unit children will create their own funny animal story.

The Day Louis Got Eaten by John Fardell

Dog Eat Dog by Ruth Merttens

There's a Lion in My Cornflakes by Michelle Robinson

Spring 1

This term we will be reading a range of stories set in Africa:

We're Going on a Lion Hunt by David Axtell

Handa's Hen by Eileen Browne

Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain by Verna Aardema

We will be answering questions about the stories, and creating our own questions and answers with capital letters, full stops and question marks. We will also be using our voices effectively to perform We're Going on a Lion Hunt as a class. At the end of the unit the children will create their own story based on these books.

Autumn 1

This term we will be sharing these books during English -

Five Minutes' Peace by Jill Murphy

Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems

Boris and Sid Make a Mess by Ruth Merttens

We will also be learning poems with repeating patterns and rhymes. Children will identify and use full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. At the end of the unit children will be able to read and write a short repetitive poem.

Autumn 2

This term we will be sharing the book Mrs Armitage on Wheels by Quentin Blake. We will be developing our writing and punctuation skills. We will also be learning humorous poems to develop our reading and comprehension skills. At the end of the unit children will be able to plan and write a funny poem.

Autumn 2 - Poetry
