Your challenge this half term is to read as many times as you can at home...you will be able to pick something from the prize book if you can! You may even want to write a book review for your favourite book.

In science Year 2 are learning all about the properties of materials. We are going to be conducting investigations and experiments to find out what absorbency means, what types of materials can be absorbent and how we can use this knowledge to choose the best fabric to make something waterproof.
In history we are learning all about our local area- Ockendon. We have already been on our walk around the town to find out whether we think the buildings are old or new and we are going to be interviewing some members of the school to find out how it has changed over the years. After half term we will be delving into the decades to find out how things have changed over time.
Our citizenship topic this half term is all about keeping ourselves safe- keeping safe in the sun, crossing the road safely, being safe around medicines and household products and being safe on the internet.
Our song for music this half term is called "I want to play in a band" we are going to be exploring how to improvise using our voices and our instruments.
During indoor PE children will learn and practise a variety of skills, including rolls, jumps and balances. Inspired by creatures found under the sea, children will develop their control, agility and coordination.
During outdoor PE children will further develop their understanding of the skills and tactics associated with attacking and defending. The children will learn how to defend different situations by practising the skills associated with finding space, marking players and developing their dodging skills by learning about different directional movements and speeds.
In art this term the children will be introduced to the work of Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Jean Metzinger. They will think about the similarities and differences between the work of the different artists, looking at the colours, painting styles, settings, and times of day. They will make paintings, drawings, and mosaic art, inspired by the three artists.
During computing children will learn what a digital footprint is and how to keep themselves safe online as well as how they should communicate online and how to deal with instances of people being unkind via digital means.
