Welcome to RS!
Mrs. Skinner - Class Teacher
Mrs. Taylor -Class LSA
This term we are learning all about ourselves and how to follow
class rules and routines which make learning fun and safe.
We will be learning through play and discussions and we will be
learning about our favourite things, our homes, our family,
people who help us and celebrations!
Here are some songs you can practise at home:
In Reception we begin by practising our listening skills and developing our language for the first couple of weeks We then move to learning "sounds" that letters make as well as beginning to learn the names of letters. We follow the Read Write Inc scheme, and the children learn the sounds in this order:
These are the Set 1 Speed Sounds written with one letter:
m a s d t i n p g o c k u b f e l h r j v y w z x
These are the sounds written with two letters (your child will call these ‘special friends’):
sh th ch qu ng nk ck
As your child becomes more familiar with the sounds they will begin to read the sounds together, this is called blending.

Stories and reading at home
We encourage reading at home as much as possible. We encourage reading for enjoyment as well as to support learning.
In school we read a variety of stories and non-fiction books to support the children's love of reading. We also learn a different story each term, where the children learn actions and the vocabulary of the story. We are currently learning "The Gingerbread Man".
The children can practise this story at home and show you some of the actions they have learnt to support your child here:
