Have a look at what what we will be learning this year!

Our History unit for Summer Term is Toys

Our History topic for this term is "The History of Toys" where we aim to answer the question "What can toys tell us about history?"

We are starting our topic this half term by inviting children to bring in a toy of their choice from home (no electronics or games consoles please) so that we can explore a range of toys and get excited for our new topic. We will then be looking at sequencing some toys through different time periods such as the Victorian times and thinking about what toys would be played with during the eras we have already learnt about such as the great fire of London. We will then move onto looking at sources to find out about real toys from Victorian and World War II as well as finding out about toys from some very exciting "visitors". We will also link to other subjects where we can, for example we will be producing some writing about comparing Victorian toys or using our maths skills to work out where the toys fit on our timeline.

Science -

What's growing in our gardens?

We will explore the outdoor area of our school and look at plants that are growing. Children will talk about what they are and what they will look like when they are fully grown.

DT -

Dips and Dippers

We will be teaching the children about good food hygiene rules and using kitchen equipment to prepare food safely. Children will apply these skills when making and evaluating a healthy dip and dippers. Children will learn about the eatwell plate and the importance of eating a healthy and varied diet.
