Welcome to the Summer term in class 1K! We have all sorts of exciting lessons and activities planned for this term and look forward to sharing them all with you!

In Year 1 this year, we are teaching the children to be independent learners by following an enquiry based learning approach. in this approach, we begin by providing children with a topic and discussing what they already know about that topic. Then, the children develop questions about what they would like to learn on the given topic. They are then placed in groups based on their area of interest. In the Autumn term, we learnt about significant people, particularly Doctors, Nurses, Firefighters, and Police Officers. In the Spring term we learnt about the UK. Last Half term we learnt about different types of technology. For this final half term we will be learning about:

'The Olympics'

Children will be working in the following three groups: Types of Olympics (Summer, Winter, Paralympics), How the Olympics Work (Logistics), and the History of the Olympics.

Each week we will teach the children how to research and investigate on their chosen area, answering any questions they have about their area of study.

Just a couple of friendly reminders:

*Please remember to bring your book bags to school everyday. This way, we can ensure that you are reading both at home and at school. Remember this way the more we read the more 'leaves' we earn!!

*Please remember to bring your P.E. kits to school. We have indoor P.E. on Tuesday afternoons and outdoor P.E. on Thursday afternoons. Don't forget to bring something warm to wear for outdoor P.E.
