This term we are going to be looking at The Maya Civilization. We do not know exactly where they came from but we do know they were a very interesting tribe. They appeared in Central America and settled in the rain forests of the Yucatan Peninsula. The Maya were very clever people and extremely skilled builders. They set about building many beautiful cities. However, they didn't use metal tools to do this, but instead they used wooden and stone tools, surprisingly even tools made from shells.
Before very long, the Maya had built hundreds of cities. They built palaces, temples, pyramids, walls, and homes. The cities were connected with well built roads that ran through the rain forests and jungles on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Can find out any exciting information about The Maya Civilization that you can tell us at school? There will be house points given to anyone that can share some facts with us!
Science Week. We investigated what happens when it rains, how plants absorb water and how mould grows!
In Art, we have created Anglo-Saxon inspired sketches. We reviewed and revisit ideas to improve them and thought carefully about the choice of colour and how the final picture will look. Final product to follow soon.
On 9th January 2017 we were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr Parker from the Fire Services. He informed us how to keep safe in our homes. Don't forget if your parents need a new fire alarm, call the number on your sheet and they will fit you one for free.

Maths
In maths we have been focusing on adding and subtracting. We have been using informal and formal methods including the expanded column method, formal column method and mental methods. We have even been teaching each other! See if you can teach your mummy or daddy - even granny and grandad! We have also been using the computers to help us with our maths. The website is... http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/number/
We have also used popcorn to help us with our maths...
Yes that's right...POPCORN!
We were given some popcorn and we had to work out how we could share it equally between everyone on the table. Some of us used repeated addition and some of us used our multiplication and/or division knowledge.

Following this introduction, the children will participate and enjoy dance through demonstrations and practical workshops within their indoor PE lessons.
