Non-Chronological Reports
This term we have been looking closely at non-chronological reports about video games. First we are going to try some games and then we will write our own game review. Finally, we will design a new platform game and present it in a report. Word classes like: nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs are very helpful in our work as well as study dialogue punctuation.
Persuasive Writing for Adverts
We are going to explore the power of persuasion in advertising. Children will play with language, create adverts and promote healthy habits. Grammar includes conjunctions and expanded noun phrases. We are going to explore how conjunctions join clauses, giving extra information about time, place and cause and investigate how clause order can change impact and punctuation. In our writing we will be using conjunctions to elaborate on persuasive points. We will also be looking at healthy lifestyles WE will discuss online research and how it is important to use reliable and trusted sources. Finally, we will create a Healthy Lifestyle Poster based on our ideas for captions, alliterations, questions and more.
Modern Fiction Story
This term we will be looking at the modern fiction story. A creative story made up by the author, will give us an insight for recording features, predictions and characters. We will have a closer look at the language, character motivation and their opinions. Our aim is to improve on imaginative language and powerful verbs.
Instructions and explanations for games.
In the Spring Term we will be leaning about instructions and explanations for games. We will be looking at Countdown and Pointless to understand instructions for potential contestants. After that, we will try our luck in Chase game, especially tailored for children. Parts of the speech will help us to find similarities and differences and will be very helpful to write our own explanations, using key features.
Fiction Stories
In English we are reading the story of Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl.
We are then using this story to learn more about how to create an imaginary world and how to create a range of interesting characters. We are exploring how to use adjectives, adverbs and verbs in a story to build tension and create excitement for the readers. We are looking at how to punctuate direct speech in the text before finally creating our own alternate ending to the story.

Newspaper Reports
This term in english we are looking at creating recounts in the form of Newspaper reports.
We will be looking at the different features of a Newspaper report including:
We are also focusing on simple past and perfect present form in out writing this term.
Our reports will be based on the volcanic eruption in Pompeii.
Fiction
We have been looking at a range of stories by the same author.
We looked at 'I'll take you to Mrs Cole' and 'Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish!'

Non-Chronological Reports
We are writing Non-Chronological reports about Sports!
We have completed lots of research using a book all about different types of sports.
We have looked at basketball, Football, Netball and finally Curling.
While learning about Non-Chronological Reports we also looked at how we use conjunctions and adverbs to develop and extend our sentences!
Here is a paragraph we wrote....
Equipment
Curling takes place on an ice rink. To play you need special shoes with one smooth surface and one spiky surface. You carefully push the heavy stone down the rink and aim for the target at the end. The sweepers use special brooms to quickly clean the ice so that the heavy stone travels further. The captain uses a pointer to tell the team where they want the stone to go on the target.
Humorous Poems
This term we will enjoy reading and writing humorous poems about teachers and school life. We will be looking at the use of powerful verbs, adverbs and prepositions to create impact. WE will write our own funny poem about our teachers!
