Hello and welcome to 5J's class page.

First some information.

PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday in year 5- make sure PE kits are in school on these days please.

5J's class assembly is on Friday 7th October this term. We are looking forward to sharing our learning with our friends and families.

 

Our topic this term is North America. We are learning about the geography and culture of this continent. Our art topic is also based on North American art.

Welcome to the Spring term in year 5.

This term, our topic is the Mayans. We will be learning about the Mayan culture and comparing with other Ancient civilisations we have learned about such as Ancient Egypt.

Our art this term will be about Ancient Egyptian masks. We will be making 3D masks and decorating them. Our outdoor PE, which is on Tuesday, is basketball. Our indoor PE, which is on Wednesday, is based on a Space topic. In computing, we are learning how to stay safe online.

 

Our first English topic is based on stories set in faraway places. In maths, we are learning about data and measures. 

 

Our class assembly is on Friday, 10th February.

Art

Fry visited the year 5 classes so we could observe him and draw him. This was part of our unit about portraying faces in art.

History

This term we are learning about the Mayans. We drew our own timelines to show the important events of the Mayan era.

English

We are learning about William Shakespeare and his plays.

Timetable change!!!

PE days change after half term.

Outdoor PE will now be on Wednesdays and indoor PE on Tuesdays. This is due to external coaches and the days they are in school.

World Book Day

Summer Term

This term, year 5 will be learning about World War II. The term will end with a celebration of our history learning when children can share what they have discovered about some of he heroes of World War II. If any family  members have any memories or artefacts from this time, we would love for these to be shared with our pupils.

Our art this term is based around birds. Pupils will be drawing birds, using feathers to print motifs and finally creating bird sculptures. In  music, we are learning Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi before we use this track as inspiration for our own compositions.

Our science topic is forces.

English focuses on fantasy stories, particularly the work of Shaun Tan. Our maths topic shape and space.

PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We are learning how circuit training can improve our fitness as well as learning batting and fielding skills in rounders.
