Welcome to RJB
Autumn term 2020
Just a short note to say thank you for all the help you have given to your children over the last few weeks to help them make such a brilliant transition into school. All the children are settling into a simple routine and showing us just how well they can play and learn alongside others. The children have found their pegs and trays, and are already enjoyed choosing the activities that they wanted to try. We will continue to ease the children into school life, helping them grow in confidence to become increasingly independent. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Reading at home.
Reading is so important and you can enjoy this with your child at home.
We have sent home a reading book and reading record book. When you have read with your child please sign their reading record book.
We would ask that you share the book daily with your child until it is changed. Pleas re-read the story as often as your can as repetition is key at their stage of development.
The 'Wordless Stories' introduce the characters and children learn that the pictures tell a story, where a story begins and how to turn the pages.
We change the books when they read with an adult in class.
Learning to Read - Phonics
To begin with we learn a couple of sounds a week .
We use pure sounds so that your child will be able to blend the sounds into words more easily.
Letter-sound pictures are used to help them learn these sounds quickly.
We use letter sounds, not the letter name
'maisie mountain mountain' is morphed into 'm'
Set 1 sounds are taught in the following order:
m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c, k, u, b, f, e, l, h, sh, r, j, v, y, w, th, z, ch, qu, x, ng, nk
Once they have learnt the first 5 sounds we teach them to blend them.
When we say words in pure sounds we call it ‘Fred Talk’, e.g. p-a-n, c-l-a-p
Reception need their PE kit in school everyday.
Please provide kit in bag, which can be kept on their peg for the half-term.
PE sessions for Reception are on TUESDAY's, starting from 15th September.
Sessions will be outside, weather permitting.
