SHAW FEST ! We had an amazing afternoon - singing and dancing.
Fry visited 1T. Fry looked at our pet rock designs. We will sell the pet rocks on enterprise day and would like Fry’s opinion on our designs.
Natwest Enterprise workshop - Year 1 had a visit from Victoria. The children had a great workshop, which was linked to Maths and Enterprise. The children found out about making sense of money.

Fry visited our English lesson. He enjoyed listening to humorous poems.
Science - The Three Little Pigs and their building choices. Year 1 recreated the story of The Three Little Pigs using straw, twigs, bricks and other materials. We predicted which materials will be most successful and why.
Does it feel soft? Strong? Will it be good material for building a house? Will it blow down when the Wolf blows? Why will it blow down? What useful properties do the materials need to have, to be good materials for house building?

History - KS1 meet some characters who witnessed the great fire of London! The children had a great time finding out about the past and comparing different versions of the event.

Science - We have been exploring magnets in Science. We have discovered what attracts to them and why.
Citizenship - Fry visited Year 1 to talk about his Dental hygiene. In Citizenship we are learning about Dental hygiene and how to care for our teeth.

Science - Spring
This term we have been learning about different everyday materials, we investigated different materials and sorted them by category.
This week our focus was 'metal and magnets' the children learnt the difference between attract and repel.
They really enjoyed creating a fishing game with paperclips!

Our first unit this year was PORTRAITS, we began by creating self-portraits, then went on to learn about the styles of some famous artists, such as, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and Andy Warhol.
DT
In this unit learnt all about different fabrics. We explored and become familiar with the names of different fabrics and learnt how to choose and manipulate fabrics to create different effects; we then also learnt how to join fabrics in a variety of ways.
We also learnt the running stitch and then applied all of these skills to create our own
fabric faces.
Geography
This term we began by learning to name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the UK.
We used our observational skills to study the geography of our school and its grounds and then learnt about the key human and physical features of the surrounding local environment.
Our local area walk around our school and South Ockendon.

One of our questions was:- What do pets like and what do they need to do to keep them happy and healthy?
We invited Fry along to participate in our lesson. We wrote letters to Fry to find the answer.
We also had another visitor!! This is Dora the tortoise.
Autumn 2
We have been finding out about animals in our Science lessons. Today we met Dora and spoke about the responsibilities of having a pet.
We discussed -
There are many different types of pets.
We observed Dora in the classroom.
Looked at similarities and differences and what features Dora has that makes Dora a good pet.
How to look after a pet well.
We can create great models using the building blocks and interstars.
In Maths we have been learning about patterns with 2D and 3D shapes. We collected natural objects to make repeating patterns.
Science Animals - Imaginary Pets. Children designed a good pet and made their own pet using junk modelling.
