SHAW 70TH

Our 70th celebration week culminated in a big party on the field

Throughout the week each year group learnt about a different decade. Year 2 had the 90s! Check out 2MD's finished hoop:

Across the school we had a competition to create a number 70. What do you think of 2MD's?

In 2MD we had an in class competition to design the best 70. Who do you think won?

On the Wednesday we dressed up through the decades! Can you guess which decade we are dressed as?

As part of our 70th celebrations we played some 1950s playground games. Mrs Leaman- singing games (dusty bluebells, farmer in the dell etc.) Miss Thompson- blind man's bluff Mrs Morgan-Bates- skipping games Miss Mulcahy- tag.

In science we have been investigating what seeds need to grow. We created posters to showcase what we have learnt.

In art we have been looking at different artists and making our own sculptures. We were inspired by Jill Townley to make sculptures using spoons.

2MD had a visit from Fry where we shared our Dinosaur Fact Files with him!

Year 2 are creating sculptures in art this half term. So far we have made sculptures of our hands from dough, buildings from sugar cubes and monsters from recycled materials. Here are 2MD's:

2MD shared their recounts of a day in the life of their chosen animal to Fry!

Look at 2MD's final pieces for our DT work. We created a moving picture using either a lever, a wheel or a slider.

We dressed up for World Book Day! Look at our costumes.

Year 2 created an art gallery to display our final pieces of artwork in the school hall. We invited our friends and teachers to admire our work.

Fry enjoyed listening and choosing his favourite Dragon inspired stories in class 2M.

This week in History we met some interesting characters. We met Samuel Pepys who wrote about the fire in his diary; Mary a poor woman who lost her house in the fire; a person who tried to help put out the fire and Thomas Farriner the baker who started the fire!

Can you tell who is who?

In History we have been learning about The Great Fire of London.  We created a human timeline with key events during The Great Fire of  London and added significant people we have already learned about in year one.

In Art we have been using different techniques to create artwork in the style of Monet.

In Gymnastics so far this Spring term we have been using the apparatus to create "Under the Sea" partner balances. Can you guess what sea creatures or objects we might be?

In Gymnastics we have been learning how to balance!

In Geography we have been learning about Kenya!

Physical Geography. We have explored the city of Nairobi when we flew to Kenya with it's high rise buildings. We made mud huts using paper to show how some humans live in the Masaai Mara nature reserve.

Art - We have been learning about LS Lowery. We created a background by mixing primary colours. We added buildings to create an industrial landscape in the style of LS Lowery using collage.

We drew match stick figures in the style of LS Lowery. We tried really hard to recreate moving characters and we were really impressed with our efforts. What do you think?

In Geography we learned to name the 5 oceans. We can also label them on a world map. Ask me to name the 5 oceans and their features!
