The nursery children have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Shaw’s 70th birthday! We have learned lots about how South Ockendon has changed over this time and also what big events have happened in the world since our school was built. We all took part in a dressing up day - (check out our wonderful fashions) and then ended the week with a party filled with balloons, bubbles and music!

We have been exploring signs of summer, during a visit to the nature garden we watched newts in the pond and discovered lots of mini beasts.

The children have been busy planting seeds… we learned about the lifecycle of a sunflower and set a challenge to see who could grow the tallest plant - we will update later with the results.

Owl Visit

We met some lovely owls and were able to see them fly!

In nursery we are learning about traditional fairy stories, we have had lots of fun dressing up as our favourite characters and role playing our favourite stories.

Making a tower for Rapunzel

Mrs Dobson donated a box to nursery and the children decided it would make a perfect tower for Rapunzel to live in. Everyone had a turn at painting the tower and adding some details - we had lots of fun making plans for Rapunzel's escape from the tower!

Magic!!

We also have been reading lots of stories that involve magic - Cinderella, Aladdin and the Magic Porridge Pot. The children in nursery have thoroughly enjoyed creating our own magic words and learning more well-known ones such as 'Abracadbra' and 'Hocus Pocus' we all agreed that our favourite was 'Bibbidi bobbidi Boo' from Cinderella and we all made magic wands of our own.

When we read the Magic Porridge Pot, we explored the texture of porridge oats and used a spell we had created to see if we could make our own porridge pot, the children instead invented a spell that turned people into a rainbow frog that leaves a shimmering trail when it leaps!!
