Topic - In our topic learning this term, we are exploring the continent of South America. We are exploring the location, place knowledge and physical geography and finally we will look at the human geography where we focus on the Amazon Rainforest and find out about what life is like for the people, animals and plants that can be found in this wonderful Biom. We have been thoroughly enjoying learning more about this continent and building on prior knowledge from Year 5.

Science - This term in Science, we started to learn more about the circulatory system- something we have built on from Year 4. We started looking  at the heart, its function and the components of blood and we then moved onto finding out about our heart rate. We investigated this and how it changes when we exercise. In the second half of of the Autumn term we are exploring a new unit called Inheritance and Evolution where we will expand our knowledge and understanding on how humans have changed over time and what we inherit from our families.

Art/DT- At the beginning of this term, we linked our Topic learning with our Art and learnt about South American artists. We discovered more about Freda Kahlo, Torres Garcia, Diego Riviera and Beatriz Milihaze; we took inspiration from these artists and created a range of different art medium such as collages, murals, self-portraits and much more! This half term, we will be diving into Design Technology where we will be analysing, designing, creating and evaluating marble runs - so look out for our finished products soon!

Computing - So far this term, we have been expanding on our spreadsheet knowledge, specifically using Excel as the software. We learnt how to add, edit and calculate data whilst completing challenges building on this knowledge. We then used these skills to create our own spreadsheets and presented our data in a table. This term, we are building on our programming knowledge, using the software Kodu. We will learn how to program characters and create small games - we look forward to sharing this with you!

PE - In PE this term so far, we built on our gymnastics knowledge and started to leap, roll and vault! We built on our resilience and confidence to put all of these skills into a sequenced routine. In outdoor PE, we focused on team games, working collaboratively and using our attacking and defending skills learnt in previous year groups. This term in indoor PE, we are focusing on dance, learning how to use our bodies and improvise with different movements, all through the theme of Electricity. In outdoor PE, we are moving to invasion games where we will apply our skills of teamwork, attacking and defending into a game situation.

MFL- In French we are learning to discuss our likes and dislikes. We are building up to being able to have a conversation where we can talk about our favourite hobbies with one another.

Citizenship- This term, we have been learning all about collaboration, the importance of working as a team and the many different roles we find within a community. We then moved onto understanding more about our own mental health and wellbeing and we learnt a range of strategies that we can use to support this.

RE- In RE this term, we are learning about what other religions believe happens to a person when they pass away and we are comparing any similarities and differences. We are then using this knowledge to reflect on our own thoughts and beliefs.
