In Early Years, in addition to the many stories we share, we learn a story we can re-tell every half term in the style and using methods of 'Pie Corbett'.  We use actions and repetitive phrases to encourage the development and art of storytelling, and to develop vocabulary and memory skills.  This later on helps to develop writing stories and other genres.
