Climate

Change

This term we are looking at historical timeline of Climate Change. We will also make predictions on how it will impact our planet Earth. Primary resources will help us to achieve it. Reading through articles and other resources will highlight changes at certain places around the world, which will be investigated closly.

Science

This term we are learning about the biology of plants. We will look at how plants grow, the different parts of a flower, what plants need to know and how their environment impacts them. We will also be learning about the pollination process.

Art

We are exploring insects in art.  We focus on two key artists and look at how they have used or explored insects to create art. We will be using a range of media and focussing on colour, technique, shape and contrast to create a range of artistic pieces which will culminate in a sculpture.

DT

We are exploring different types of bread and how they are made. We will also explore which ingredient can be added to enhance and develop different tastes.

Citizenship

We are learning how to be entrepreneurs.

RE

What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?

Computing

We are looking at coding, how to create loops and how to debug a programe on scratch.

PE

Gymnastics (travelling in a range of different ways.)

Music

Improvising and composing using different music types and genres.

MFL

How to ask for food in French, talk about months and date and our family members.

Topic

This term we are exploring what is meant by Climate Change. We will look at what climate change is; how this impacts us and our community and what we can actively do as a school to affect change.

Science

We start this term by exploring how we see, sources of light, how we create shadows and what materials are easiest to see in dark places.

From here we then move on to forces and magnets. We experiment with different forces and how they can affect objects around them. We also look at magnetic poles and how they attract or repel.

Art

We are exploring leaves. We will be sketching leaves, looking at how to use colour to show the changes in leaves from Autumn to Spring, using different observational skills to add detail and texture to our leaves and finally using printing to create a leaf curtain.

DT

We are exploring different types of moving parts before creating our own moving posters. We talk about recycling and how important it is for us to have a clean planet before using our knowledge of moving parts to create a moving poster. Our focus is to ensure that we increase the impact of our poster by making them interactive through the use of mechanisms to make parts of it move.

Citizenship

How to look after ourselves and keep ourselves safe.

We are going to work on becoming more self-aware when thinking about our own wellbeing and recognising and talking about our emotions.

RE

Why are festivals important to religious communities?

We will explore what festivals different religions celebrate and what they mean to those communities.

Computing

How to keep ourselves safe online.

Understand how to keep ourselves safe on the internet. We will explore what private information means and how we can keep it safe.

In the second half term we will then use our computing knowledge to begin to create art pieces using a range of different software.

PE

Gymnastics (Shape)

In this unit of Gymnastics we explore how the different shapes we can make with our bodies would impact in a gymnastics routine. We look at a range of male and female gymnasts from around the world to inspire us to create routines using the leaps and rolls we previously learned but incorporating shapes made with our bodies.

Music

Improvising and composing using different music types and genres.

We begin by exploring a range of different music types and then we will improvise with a range of instruments. We will then continue into the second half term by beginning to compose using instruments and explore different ways of recording music.

MFL

How to describe people in French.

We will explore the names of different body parts in French and add in some descriptions. We then move on to exploring and describing different animals and pets.

Geography

All about the UK

We are learning all about the UK. Our learning will start off with identifying the countries that exist in the UK and we look at the counties around us as well as exploring the River Thames. We will then learn about a different part of the UK (The Lake District) and compare it to our local area. Finally we will make adverts for advertising Thurrock to visitors.

Science

Animals Including Humans

We start this term by exploring how we can keep our bodies healthy. We look at what a good diet can do to support our bones and muscles and how important it is to have a balanced diet.

Rocks and Fossils

After half term we move on to Rocks and Fossils. In this exciting unit of science we look at how Fossils are formed over time, learn to classify different types of rock and even explore how soil is formed over time from a range of sediment and minerals. There are plenty of opportunities to use our knowledge and work scientifically whether this be through detailed observation drawings, experiments with the absorbancy of rocks or creating 3D models of fossils.

Art

British Art

We will explore a range of British artists and consider how they use colour in their different pieces of art. We will experiment with colour and a range of artistic mediums including crayons, pastels, paint and natural resources, and finally create our own portraits of Fry.

DT

Juggling Balls

In this unit we design, test and create our own product: Juggling Balls.

We analyse the purpose of juggling balls and compare commercially produced ones, looking at the colour, material and design before evaluating their effectiveness. We use this to guide us in our decision making regarding our own designs. We test ways of decorating, joining materials and ultimately filling our juggling balls before we make a final decision on what we will use and how in order to meet the design criteria established in the unit.

Citizenship

Friendship

We learn how to be good friends to our classmates and others in our community. We link this very clearly with our core values of respecting peoples differences and making decisions. Children explore their role within the school but also in their larger environment and why it is important to carry these values with them throughout life.

RE

What do different people believe about God?

In this unit we learnt to answer this question by exploring different religions and how they worship. We then link this to our own beliefs or opinions.

Computing

Using word and Turtle Logo (computer programming)

We build on our previous learning around programming and developing our ICT skills further in order to write our own code.

PE

Gymnastics (Leaps, jumps and rolls)

We learn to control our movements when doing a range of different gymnastic moves.

Dance (based on rainforests)

We look at a range of dance styles from around the world and work together to choreograph our own dance performance which are inspired by tropical rainforests and the impact we have on them.

Outdoor invasion games

We learn how to safely take part in invasions games, learning the roles of defensive and offensive strategy in these games. We also work on a range of skills involving passing, dribbling, throwing and catching.

Music

Improvisation

Using The Dragon Song, we learn to improvise with a piece of music. We learn to sing in a two-part harmony and add in our own instrumental parts to add texture and layers to a final song.

Performance

After the half term we begin preparing a performance of our production. We focus our learning on how to prepare and plan for a good performance. This is done through identifying and planning for our audience, understanding and preparing songs for performing and planning and entire show.
