Fantasy Stories: Shaun Tan

Persuasive Writing: Persuasion and Argument

Poems by the Same Author: Joseph Coelho

 

We will start by reading inspirational short stories from Shaun Tan, which will stimulate the children to produce amazing work. The children will also revisit the use of modal verbs, parenthesis and dialogue.  The children will then conclude this by writing a short story in Shaun Tan-style.

Next the children will be exploring persuasive letters, adverts, protest songs and speeches. They will study the impact of modal verbs and cohesion through adverbs and conjunctions. Then they will conclude the unit by delivering persuasive speeches.

Finally, the children will read, watch and discuss  Joseph Coelho work (in Werewolf Club Rules). They will apply their skills to write and perform poetry. Through the unit they will revise noun phrases, and brackets, dashes and commas.

Classic plays: Shakespeare 

Recounts: Reports and Journalism 

 

 

 

We are currently learning about fictional stories from faraway places and at the end of this unit we will be writing our own story set in a faraway place. We will be reading some fictional stories in order to help inspire us for our final piece.

We are currently learning about reports and recounts as we are going to be writing our own at the end of this unit in the form of a newspaper article about reported UFO sightings in England. We will be reading some fiction and lots of non-fiction recounts of people's close encounters with what they believe to be UFO's.
