Summer Term:

Fantasy Fiction - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 

This term as part of our English learning, we will be reading and using the second book in the Harry Potter series- The Chamber of Secrets. Throughout this unit, the book will be used for inspiration to revise some existing knowledge and learn  some new skills for comprehension, grammar and fictional writing. We will be covering the following writing genres as we read the book: persuasive letters, character descriptions, narratives and newspaper report writing.

Spring Term:

Fantasy Fiction - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 

This term as part of our English learning, we will be reading and using Harry Potter- starting off with Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Throughout this unit, the book will be used for inspiration to revise some existing knowledge and learn  some new skills for comprehension, grammar and fictional writing. We cannot wait to get started and enjoy the love of reading whilst improving and building on skills! 

Autumn Term:

Fantasy Fiction - Northern Lights 

Throughout our fantasy fiction unit, we focused on the book Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. This story is about a girl named Lyra who has a daemon, Pantalaimon; the dynamic duo work their way through a fantasy world trying to save his uncle who is imprisoned by armoured bears. We have thoroughly enjoyed the book so far and enjoying adapting our writing based on the book. During this unit, we create our own character and setting descriptions and even wrote out own opening for a new chapter where we tried to create sensory images for the reader just like Pullman does.

Poetry- Black Lives Matter 

We learn all about the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests that took place in 2020 through a range of powerful poems. Throughout this unit, we read, discuss and perform many different poems and eventually write our own including a range of features: onomatopoeia, personification, metaphors, similes, and rhyming patterns.
