Have a look at our final piece of learning about Ancient Greece.

Great Bread Bake Off

We had a chance to explore and bake our own bread. We carefully looked at the ingredients, tried some different types of bread. Then, we decided what we like and we made it! Have a look at our delicious bread.

Ancient Greek Workshop

This term we have been learning about Ancient Greece. We had a fantastic workshop about Ancient Greece, which took us back in time, where we could experience what life was like back then. We had lots of fun and laugh!

Look at our photos.

Music workshop

We had a fantastic time with Jeff Rich from Status Quo, who came to tell us about his work and music. We had a chance to play some musical instruments and learn how to play drums.

Planetarium Visit

We had a chance to sit under the stars and learn about the Greek constellations, including travels to space.

This Term...

In Science, we have been exploring what plants need to grow. Here are some examples of our work...

In Topic we are looking at Ancient Greece.

We have explored this through a timeline and looked at how the lives of Ancient Greeks were different to our lives today.

In computing this term we have worked on programming loops using scratch.

At the end of this we made a program that had a never ending loop using scratch.

Here are some examples.

In art this term we explored different methods of creating art through the theme of insects.

We made some mosaics of different insects and then finally created sculptures of different insects.

Here are some examples

Previous Learning...

In Topic we are currently looking at different period of time when people settled in Thurrock. Evidence of the Stone Age that can be found in Thurrock helped us to compare settlement and houses today. This term we will look at how the invention of railway impacted demographics and structure of the local area.

We also looked at the Windrush and created a display sharing all the information we have learned.

In Science we learned about how shadow is formed when the light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object. We used torches and colored acetates in theatre groups to investigate the effect of mixing beams of colored light.

In ART we had the opportunity to explore the work of several paintings of Autumn scenes. We used pencils, color paint, print and collage to create quality art work. Now we know how to use the quick print tiles, show colors in drawings and mix and select appropriate colors. We know how to draw in observational details based on leaf in front of us.

In Science week we carried out a range of experiments including one where we tested our lung capacity by blowing bubbles into a bowl.

In Science this term we have been learning about rocks and how they were formed.

What is a rock? The Earth's crust is made up of lots of different types of rocks which form naturally over a long period of time. Rocks are solid and can be large or small. Small rocks are called 'pebbles'. Rocks are made when mineral grains grow or are fused together. Every rock is made up of one or more minerals. Rocks are shapeshifters! They gradually change form over time, with a history that can span millions of years. There are three types of rock: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. We also looked at the fossils and made our own.

Our fossils

Our local walk

In Geography we went on a local area walk.

We looked at different geographical features and decided if they were man made or natural.

Art

In art we looked at a range of artists and the different ways they used colour in their art work.

We focussed on creating different portraits and began to experiment more with colour.

Finally we created portraits of Fry and experimented with the way we coloured him.

We were influenced by a more Abstract style of art.

Design Technology

In design technology we have been looking at different ways to join materials.

We have experimented with a range of materials by testing how strong they are. We then joined two different materials together to see which method would be most effective.

We tried glue, staples and sewing.

The pictures above show how we practiced a running stitch in a range of materials and evaluated how effectively they held together.

Take a look at our final pieces...

Science

This term in Science we looked at healthy eating.

We explored the impact that a healthy diet would have on our bodies.

We then used all of our knowledge to create posters that will help others choose to lead a healthier lifestyle.

English

As part of our English Unit, we created posters full of research about our chosen sport.

You can see some of them here!

This then helped us to plan and write a non-chronological report about a chosen sport.
