We enjoyed listening to The Twits so much we decided to listen to another Roald Dahl classic, James and the Giant Peach. The story of a young orphan named James who, after losing his parents to a rhinoceros, is forced to live with two cruel aunts; when he accidentally discovers a magical peach that grows to enormous size, he enters it and befriends a group of giant, talking insects, embarking on a journey across the ocean to escape his aunts, all while navigating the fantastical adventures that come with traveling on a giant peach.
Mr Twit is a foul and smelly man who always has bits of cornflake and sardine in his beard. Mrs Twit is scheming and sly and always thinking of the next horrible trick to play on her husband.
The Twits are so ghastly and evil that they even keep Muggle-Wump the monkey and his family captive in their garden. But not for much longer! The monkeys are planning to trick the terrible Twits so that they can escape and put a stop to the frightful pair once and for all!

We love reading for pleasure in year one. We will learn new vocabulary to use in our writing and use our imaginations!
We will be reading Fearless Fairy Tales in year 1. We will meet Trumplestiltskin, a vain and gold-obsessed little man who will stop at nothing to become richer and richer. There's Sleeping Brainy, the princess whose only dream is to become Chancellor of the Exchequer, and the Gingerbread Kid, who escapes persecution in his home country but struggles to fit in in his new one. You won't forget the lingering stench of Mouldysocks - a boy obsessed with staring at his iPad but rather less obsessed with personal hygiene - and you'll be rooting for Rap-Unzel when she gets the chance of fame by appearing on Kingdom's Got Talent . . . but at what cost?
